A 69-year-old Las Vegas man died Thursday evening when his vehicle left Desert Inn Road and struck a light pole.
Metro Police said the man's 2001 GMC Sierra pickup truck was eastbound at about 5:20 p.m. in Desert Inn's center travel lane just west of Pecos Road. The vehicle then veered southbound and struck a curb before traveling across the sidewalk, striking a block wall and rolling over, authorities said.
The pickup then struck a tree and a light pole. The driver, whose name wasn't being released Thursday night, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Authorities said witnesses reported that the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed just before the crash occurred.
Metro Police said the death is the 65th traffic-related fatality in its jurisdiction this year. The crash remains under investigation.
