Bait car, meet the governor

Gov. Jim Gibbons made a stop over at Metro Police headquarters today for a joint press conference with Sheriff Doug Gillespie about the department's bait car program.

A "bait car," by the way, is what it sounds like: A car tricked out with surveillance and tracking devices so that when someone makes the mistake of trying to steal it, they'll be followed and recorded by police.

The governor is reportedly checking out a few bait cars, though he's coming kind of late to the game. Metro Lt. Bob DuVall, who is head of the auto theft section, started using the bait cars last year and attributes a decline in car theft throughout the valley to their use.
