Henderson police shoot, kill man

Henderson police officers fatally shot a 53-year-old Las Vegas man after he came toward them with a gun.

Police gave this report:

The incident began around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when police observed the unidentified man acting suspiciously and driving a stolen

Mustang. The officers pulled him over in a drugstore parking lot on Racetrack Road at Boulder Highway and exited their vehicle. The man also exited his vehicle and came toward police carrying a gun he refused to drop.

One officer fired at the man as he approached, hitting him and landing him at St. Rose de Lima Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Clark County Coroner's Office will release the identity of the deceased after he has been identified and his family has been notified.

The names of the officers involved in the shooting will be released 48 hours from the time of the incident, as per police policy.
