The Rio is doing some locals appreciation at its buffet that will go a little easier on the wallet.

The Carnival Buffet is offering about 50 percent off for locals at its lunch and dinner buffet Mondays through Thursdays. That means with the presentation of a Nevada ID the lunch buffet is $8.50 and dinner is $12.50 for the locals crowd. Regular prices for lunch and dinner are $16.99 and $23.99, respectively.

On top of the discount on the buffet, the Carnival Buffet’s Web site features a coupon for a free, chocolatey dessert with the purchase of one buffet. The offer is good Monday through Friday until the end of the year.

M Resort’s last bash of summer

The M Resort is giving families a place to celebrate the end of summer. The resort is opening its pool deck to all on Sunday, Sept. 6 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at no charge. Visitors can cool off in M’s pool and take advantage of the live entertainment and fireworks display in the evening.

M will be providing free face painting, airbrush tattoos, balloon art and a watermelon spitting contest for the kids while adults can hang in the lounge area for beer specials all night and $2 wine by the glass from the Hostile Grape.

Cheap eats will be on hand, too, with Mexican food and American classics like hot dogs, burgers, cotton candy, ice cream and gourmet pastries straight from the resort’s bakery, all ranging from $2 to $7.

Half-off gift certificates

HalfOffDeals.com’s name pretty much says it all. The Web site offers gift certificates for local businesses for half price or less.

The site currently offers 46 half-priced deals within the Las Vegas Valley. Deals include $50 gift cards for $20 at Hash House A Go Go, Memphis Champion Barbeque and Cadillac Ranch, and $50 gift cards for $25 at Mandalay’s Border Grill and McFadden’s at the Rio. The gift certificates on the site are mainly for restaurants and bars in the area but also include some deals for gyms, salons, spas and entertainment.

But when buying a gift certificate from the site, make sure to plan ahead. Some of the gift certificates take seven to 10 business days to arrive while others are digital.
