Driver Jennifer Jo Cobb races with the law on her side

Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 | 9:49 p.m.

Camping World Truck Series driver Jennifer Jo Cobb is probably the smartest racer in the Truck Series. Why? Because she'll have a lawyer riding shotgun with her in the Smith's 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday.

All right, I'm exaggerating a little. Local personal injury attorney Glen Lerner will be sponsoring Cobb's truck in Saturday's race. My advice to the other drivers in tomorrow's event is to give her a lot of room on the track. The last thing any of these drivers need is to be hit with a personal injury lawsuit after spinning Cobb.

I had a chance to ask Cobb a few questions tonight at a drivers’ meet-and-greet in the Riviera Hotel. She mentioned that she was originally planning to run in the Nationwide Series race in Charlotte on Friday. But a last-minute deal from Glen Lerner convinced her that she should concentrate on this weekend's Truck Series race. "Our Nationwide cars just aren't performing and our trucks are starting to perform a little bit better," Cobb said.

I also asked Cobb where the Vegas track ranks on her list of favorite tracks. "There is a spa in the infield of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway," Cobb said at the session with fans this evening. "Today I was getting a massage and a facial and I was thinking that this is by far one of my favorite tracks."

Cobb qualified in the in the 26th position for Saturday’s race.
