It was a great weekend for racing and for cartooning. And the weekend’s events provided many story lines that made my job easy. Here is my collection of sketches from Sunday’s race.

I sat in back of three guys at the Bud Shootout who were drinking heavily. One of the guys, this 18 year old kid, had never been to Sprint Cup race and was highly agitated that his man, Kyle Busch, wasn't getting up front. His father did a lot of scowling and trying to explain to him that nothing matters til the end and then, to everyone else, that his kid had never been to a race. Nobody really cared, but it was quite a side show.
Also ... how come co-Grand Marshall Kardashian was silent during the call to start up the engines?
Great toons MIke!
I enjoyed a beautiful day at the track on Sunday. Despite it being a sellout, eight seats out of twenty in my row were empty.
Hendrick cars ran well, even Jr. was keeping up for most of the day. JJ can come from 20 back (last year Kyle from forty third...). Cars can pass on this track, that's a good thing.
Daytona has potholes but LVMS has "ghost yellows"...that's a bad thing.
Before the last caution, how many were on the lead lap, maybe ten or eleven cars? So another dozen gain a lap and catch up with the "wave around rule", is that racing? Seems like it's just padding the final results...
