NASCAR makes a fine move

Although it’s not one of the most pressing issues facing NASCAR, the sport’s sanctioning body on Monday announced that, beginning this season, all money collected from fines issued to drivers would go to NASCAR’s charitable foundation.

In the past, all money collected from fines went into the year-end fund, which meant that drivers could end up getting back what they were fined -- and then some -- when the prize money was doled out at the end of the season.

The NASCAR Foundation supports dozens of charitable organizations, including Kyle and Pattie Petty’s Victory Junction Gang Camp and Speedway Children’s Charities.

NASCAR gets criticized when it makes a boneheaded move. It should be applauded when it does the right thing.

  1. Good thing I don't believe in 'GOD', because if I did I would have to assume he works for the IRS. It's almost a duty for everyone to try and get away with a few 'things' at tax time, isn't it? The means justify the end, let the kids have the money, and if Knaus and some others get fined (again) this year, so what, it's the nature of the game.

  2. "NASCAR now gave its drivers and teams another reason to cheat - tax deductions!!!"

Sorry, I did a snark along the same lines at my place, but if tax deductions were in the offing NASCAR would get them. They would be the ones in possession of the cash and it would be NASCAR that turns it over to the the charity.

  3. "I cheated so we could help the kids." There ya go!

  4. Trying to take the 'moral high ground' are we mhenle? Please don't tell your dear little one(s), who apparently are avid NASCAR fans, that NASCAR came from moonshine running. You know those dishonest, law breaking, gun totting, non tax-paying, bad guys. Oh, the horror! Now, in today's sterile world, a trick lug nut is a heinous crime to you! Sad!!
