I noticed something at Bristol that I haven’t seen much of this racing season. No noticeable empty seats. Looking back on the races from this year, I’m hard pressed to think of a race that hasn’t had an embarrassingly high number of vacant seats. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to understand that Bristol’s competitive, fender-banging, emotional, take-no-prisoners style of racing will bring fans to the grandstands despite high fuel costs and declining consumer spending. It’s time to add more tracks like this to the Sprint Cup lineup.
Won’t it be interesting if the drama from the Bristol race helps to fill the empty seats we usually see in Fontana?

Well now, it's just plain obvious to me that Ford has a 'horsepower advantage', why doesn't NASCAR do something about it, oh groan and whine!!
The Shrub - Edwards 'rivalry' thing is getting blown out of proportion. They are winning a lot of races between them, but rivalry? However ....... the next race could be interesting.
"Fill the empty seats we usually see in Fontana", good luck! I have been to every track in the west multiple times, except Fontana, ever. The track is boring butt, and it makes the racing just the same, this won't fill the seats even if gas were free, and that is the end of that.
I'm going to Fontana, so I'll be able to give you a full report on the seating situation next week.
And let's hope there is a rivalry between Kyle and Carl, otherwise the Chase could end up becoming a boring snooze-o-rama if Kyle dominates at every track.
Somehow I seem to miss how the infamous Ms. Zucker always seems to get a free pass with regards to the NASCAR scheduling.
Rockingham took criticism then, now and always for not getting adequate attendance to justify hosting a Cup race and justifiably lost two Cup dates
Darlington took criticism then for not getting adequate attendance to justify hosting a Cup race and justifiably lost one Cup date and was also penalized by the removal of the historic Southern 500 date on Labor Day weekend and the date was given to the favored track on the left coast.
In stark contrast to what everyone thought would happen, Darlington proceeded to sell out its single race date each year in spite of the penalty date of Mother’s Day weekend.
But, the left coast rewarded with not one but two cup dates, proceeded to play in front of less than impressive crowds and we were told
a. The fans are under the grandstand buying souvenirs
b. The fans are not here because it is too hot
c. The fans are not here because they are in Hollywood at the OSCARS
d. All of the above
Rockingham was host to a Cup date every year in mid-February to miserable weather and the less than advantageous date of the weekend after Daytona.
Never was Rockingham offered a better date to compensate for a. weather, b. date after Daytona, c. ACC/NCAA basketball in NC, d. all of the above.
So California asked and is quickly granted a reward of being not only allowed to continue to host two race dates but is now rewarded with a chase date.
Why is the playing field not level for everyone? And next year, when Kansas City is awarded a second Cup date at another mile and a half track, when all if the tracks are lined up to decide who will lose a date, how can anyone possibly take a race date away from any track without administering the same rules as Darlington and Rockingham incurred by justifiably removing a Cup date from the favored left coast facility?
Go to Fontana...not likely...the OSCARs, not likely, but there appears to be plenty of seats available at both locations.
