The Hillary Clinton of NASCAR?

Sometimes coming up with an idea for a cartoon can be as hard as the Goodyear tires on Tony Stewart’s Toyota. But this wasn’t one of those weeks.

There were plenty of events from the race at Martinsville that would have made for a great cartoon. Danny Hamlin overcame his struggles from earlier in the season to win, Dale Junior continues to impress with his performance since moving to Hendrick Motorsports, Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson had a resurgence and the usually mild-mannered Jeff Burton basically told Michael McDowell: Let’s get ready to rumble.

But the sway bar from Roush Fenway racing that ended up in Michael Waltrip’s parts bin, or Partgate as it is now called, was by far the wildest story from the week, which made it too good to ignore. Stories like this practically let the cartoon draw itself. All I have to do is decide what my opinion is regarding the controversy. And, given Michael Waltrip’s past performance with the fuel additive cheating scandal, I decided he should be the punch line for the cartoon.

Unfortunately, Michael Waltrip may be developing a credibility problem and if he’s not careful he could end up becoming the Hillary Clinton of NASCAR.
